Origin Error Codes

EA's Origin client has been replaced by the EA app, but many games still trigger its old error codes — mostly login, connection, or a broken client. Here's each one and the fix.

Error codes

20:403 / 20.403 Can't connect to EA's online servers

Cause: A blocked connection, wrong system clock, or an EA server issue during login.

Fix:
  1. Set Windows date/time to automatic — a wrong clock is the top cause.
  2. Clear the Origin cache: close Origin, delete %ProgramData%\Origin (except LocalContent) and %AppData%\Origin.
  3. Disable VPN and whitelist Origin in your firewall.
327683:0 Origin can't verify the game/online service

Cause: Corrupt Origin cache or a firewall blocking the login handshake.

Fix:
  1. Clear the Origin cache (see 20:403).
  2. Run Origin as administrator.
  3. Repair the game: right-click it in your Library › Repair.
9:0 Origin failed to install or update

Cause: A corrupt installer, antivirus lock, or leftover files from a previous version.

Fix:
  1. Fully uninstall Origin, delete leftover %ProgramData%\Origin and %AppData%\Origin folders, and reinstall the EA app.
  2. Disable antivirus during install.
  3. Install to the default location.
10:0 / 10:1 Update failed / connection lost mid-update

Cause: Network drop or a blocked download server.

Fix:
  1. Restart Origin and your router.
  2. Flush DNS (ipconfig /flushdns).
  3. Temporarily disable VPN/proxy and retry the update.
0xc000007b A game won't launch from Origin

Cause: Missing or mismatched runtimes (DirectX, Visual C++, .NET) rather than Origin itself.

Fix:
  1. Install/repair the latest DirectX, Visual C++ Redistributables (x86 and x64) and .NET.
  2. Verify/Repair the game in your Library.
  3. Update your GPU driver.
Origin won't open / stuck loading The client hangs on a blank or loading screen

Cause: Corrupt cache, an outdated client, or the R Server/hosts file blocking EA domains.

Fix:
  1. Clear the Origin cache and reboot.
  2. Migrate to the EA app — EA now installs it in place of Origin.
  3. Check the hosts file for blocked ea.com/origin.com entries.

Fixes that work for most Origin / EA (legacy client) errors

  1. Fully quit the launcher from the system tray (right-click › Exit), then reopen it — a half-loaded client throws most generic errors.
  2. Restart your PC and router, and on Windows flush DNS (Command Prompt: ipconfig /flushdns).
  3. Update or reinstall the launcher/client to the latest version — many 'connection' or 'version' errors are just an out-of-date client.
  4. Temporarily disable VPN and add the launcher as an exception in your antivirus/firewall, then retry.
  5. Check the service's official status page or its X/Twitter — if the servers are down for maintenance there is no local fix; wait it out.

FAQ

Is Origin still used, or is it the EA app now?

EA replaced Origin with the EA app, and installing it migrates your Origin library. If you still see Origin error codes, the fastest fix is often to let EA install the EA app in its place — but the cache-clear and clock/firewall fixes below still apply to both.

How do I fix Origin error 20:403?

It's a login/connection error. Set your PC's date and time to automatic, clear the Origin cache (delete the %ProgramData%\Origin and %AppData%\Origin folders with Origin closed), disable any VPN, and whitelist Origin in your firewall.
